The wine-growing vocation of the Montefalco area dates back thousands of years: Pliny the Elder mentions a prized grape called 'Itriola' that was produced in the territories of the present-day municipality of Bevagna. According to some scholars, it could be identified with the Sagrantino grape. In reality, nothing is known for certain about the origin of Sagrantino: some support the autochthonous hypothesis, which would have it obtained by selection from local clones, while most believe it to be a variety imported by some follower of St. Francis of Assisi. The name is said to be related to the Sacraments, from the Latin "sacer" and "sacramentum", as the grape was cultivated by monks who made a passito wine from it for religious rites. In any case, this part of Umbria was and remains strongly suited for the production of excellent wines. Our company, which has been producing wines since 1896, is very attached to tradition, seasonality and the typicality of these products, while not renouncing the use of avant-garde techniques and instruments; in fact, our philosophy is centred on safeguarding the territory and satisfying our customers by guaranteeing a high level of quality. We also produce excellent extra virgin olive oil.
Dettaglio offerta - Destinazione Subasio
A red wine of great polyphenolic richness, the typical expression of a grape variety that is unique on the international scene, Montefalco Sagrantino Dionigi is striking for its great variety of taste sensations. Typically dry, harmonious and velvety, it has aromas of blackberries and blueberries, as well as spices of liquorice, carob and chocolate, black pepper and cinnamon. It isa full-bodied wine with a distinct freshness that accompanies it in its natural longevity.
In keeping with the tradition of our winery's wines, this red wine is also remarkably structured and, after long ageing, its tannic note is soft and elegant, and of course there is no lack of spicy notes derived from ageing in oak. Also recognisable is the small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon contained in it in addition to Sagrantino, Merlot and Sangiovese. Its colour is an intense ruby red with slightly garnet hues.
The blend of Sagrantino, Merlot and Sangiovese makes this wine particularly structured, pleasant and well-balanced. The not-too-long ageing in oak leaves pleasant fruity notes that translate into an intense ruby red colour.
Pure Grechetto produced using the cryomaceration method, which allows for a greater extraction of aromatic substances. Temperature control during fermentation at 15°C for 20/25 days is also fundamental. This iswhy the wine is pleasantly fruity and floral.
The Montefalco Sagrantino in Passito version is the traditional one. The Sagrantino grapes are left to dry on mats for about 2 and a half months. Its colour is intense ruby red tending to garnet, with a rich, enveloping aroma of dried figs, berry jam and spices.
Wine made from Grechetto grapes, ideal for drying on racks for about two and a half months.Intense golden yellow in colour, delicate and pleasant on the nose, full and balanced on the palate with notes of almond and honey.
This special passito, in limited production, is made from white Muscat grapes harvested at the end of August and placed on racks for about 2 months. It is then destemmed and soft-pressed. Golden yellow colour, very intense and persistent aroma with citrus and apricot notes, on the palate it is enveloping, balanced and very persistent
Acareful discontinuous distillation of our Sagrantino marc gives birth to 360°, a 100% Sagrantino grappa, a grappa with a strong and smooth taste.
