Borgo Antichi Orti, built between 1400 and 1600 on the slopes of Assisi, was a small convent of Benedictine monks who carried out an intense activity in the production of medicinal herbs for the research and production of highly effective medicines used by the Guild of Doctors and Apothecaries of the time. These officinal herbs were selected and cultivated according to astral cycles in these Hortuli, from which the current Borgo Antichi Orti takes its name. Thanks to patient renovation work, preserving its authenticity and charm while offering all the comforts of the present, the Borgo offers its guests an atmosphere of absolute spirituality, relaxation and privacy in a panorama unequalled anywhere in the world. Aromatic herbs, but also vegetables and fruit are still skilfully cultivated in the Hortuli and orchard following the cyclical nature of the seasons, used to distil excellent drinks and as natural ingredients for the menus served in the Locanda del Borgo.
