Starting from Località Gabbiano (Assisi), we follow secondary roads in the direction of the Seraphic City. You will cross olive groves and roads until you reach, on a dirt road, Porta Cappuccini, the northeast entrance to the city of Assisi. At another time known as the gate of St. Anthony (abbot), it was built after the one demolished by Piccinino's soldiers.
It is not unlikely that Giovanni Joergensen often passed through it on his walks to the Hermitage of the Carceri and Subasio.
From Porta Cappuccini, one ascends towards the Rocca Minore or Rocchicciola: a fortress built in 1367 by Cardinal Egidio Albornoz to guard and defend the city. The inner courtyard contains a chapel with a Crucifixion painted by Matteo da Gualdo. Continuing along the itinerary, we descend to Porta Perlici, built in the 12th century and located at the end of Via Perlici. The district in which the gate is located is known for its ancient houses and preserves the layout of the Roman city and interesting sights, including the Roman Amphitheatre and Theatre.
You will be able to glimpse the alleys of the town of Assisi from where you will then reach the Rocca Maggiore, the fortress that dominates the town.
